đź”— Share this article Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends. The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running. The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight. The veteran finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
